Italian best-selling cars ranking in May 2020 is again dominated by the Fiat Panda, ahead of the Lancia Ypsilon and the Renault Clio. The Jeep Renegade gained 5 spots, while the Volkswagen T-Roc and the Polo slipped down at the edge of Top 10 ranking. The best selling car ranking in Italy is dominated by small and medium cars due to the high use of the vehicles in the urban environment. The traditional narrow streets of the italian towns and the difficulties to find parking areas continue to be the first driver for people to prefer small cars. In the last decade, the increased average price and the reduced purchased power have further forced a large part of the population to choose a low-cost car, with the success of brands like Dacia, Kia, Hyundai.Despite the national brand – Fiat – declines – the best-selling model is still the city-car Fiat Panda which has lost terrain in the last decade from a market share of 7.9% in 2010 to a negative record of 6.0% in 2018, before to show recovery in the 2019 (+6.9%). Following the positive wave of the last year, the Fiat Panda reconfirms its leadership in May 2020 with 8.3% of share and 37.130 year to date sales (-51.2%).The glorious but dead Italian brand Lancia preserves the second place with the survived model Lancia Ypsilon at 3.4% with 15.262 units sold (-49.7%). The Renault Clio gains 1 spot from the previous year, with 2.4% of share, ahead the Fiat 500x – holding 2.2% – which is one of the few Fiat still produced in Italy, in Melfi on the same Renegade platform. In fifth and sixth position there are the Jeep Renegade – up 5 spots from 2019 – and the Citroen C3, both holding 2.2% of market share. The Fiat 500 reached the 7th position with 10.143 units sold (-54.3%) and 2% of share, followed by the Opel Corsa. At the edge of the Top 10 ranking, we find the Volkswagen T-Roc and the Volkswagen Polo, which have fallen from respectively the 5th and 6th place from 2019.
