September Robinhood / stonks update

Quick update…
I took a small position in the VIX, the CBOE volatility index, with a view that as the election approaches and with structural weakness in both the US and global economy, we’ll see S&P 500 volatility rise and/or spike. Entry price of $28.31, so I’m currently down 7.5%.
On Robinhood, I bot small stakes in the following:

Robinhood is my “fomo” portfolio, where I take small positions in specific names to reduce any fomo I might have for not investing more heavily in stocks. It’s more of a learning tool — seeing which predictions are right / wrong, and why – than a source of financial returns. In equity investing, I’m generally more supportive of index funds than stock picking.
I am also steadily withdrawing assets from my Wealthfront portfolio (I’m souring on robo-advisors in this volatile and uncertain economy, although I can’t fully articulate why) for a mix of cash, crypto, and gold.
Finally, I opened a sizable position on RING, the iShares gold miners ETF, at an entry price of $30.81, after learning from analysts like Lyn Alden and Matthew Mezinskis. I shared some of those learnings in my weekly random notes.
Here was my original post sharing my stonks portfolio. I haven’t updated it to reflect the above yet.
