Senegal vehicles sector in 2020 reported only a slight drop compared to the previous year. Indeed, Year to Date sales in September were 2.240 units, losing 10.8% compared to last year. Toyota remains the undiscussed leader, growing by 18.9%.
Market Trend Year to Date
In Senegal 2.240 units have been sold until September 2020, reporting a loss of only 10.8% compared to last year. This is a modest loss compared to other countries in the region.
Brand-wise the undiscussed leader remains Toyota, gaining 18.9%, followed by Renault losing 6.1% and Suzuki (+23.5%).
Medium-Terms Market Trend
Indeed, after years of stable demand around the 5.000 annual units, in recent years the new vehicles market started growing, hitting an All-time record in 2017 with 8.339 sales, including 7.005. However, in 2018 the market has interrupted the previous years’ positive trend, falling suddenly down 16.2% with registrations at 6.985.
In 2019, the market kept declining, selling 5.959 units and losing 5.8% from 2018.
In Q1 2020 740 units were sold (-12.9%), while First Half sales were 1.457 (-13.3%).
In July the market remained down 13.7% with 239 units sold, with only a slight improvement in August, registering 233 new vehicles (-15.9%).
